Construction Project Engineer – Industrial Manufacturing
In partnership with our client, a global leader in aluminum and metals manufacturing, we are seeking a Construction Project Engineer to support heavy industrial capital projects at their manufacturing facility. This is a project-based engineering support assignment with an expected duration of 24 months.
Under the direction of the Director of Projects, this individual will support the execution of large-scale capital projects associated with plant expansions, process improvements, equipment installations, and industrial construction activities. The Project Engineer will work closely with a multi-discipline engineering team, contractors, vendors, and plant operations personnel to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
This position is ideal for an engineer with experience supporting industrial manufacturing facilities, construction management, and capital project execution in heavy industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning and execution of capital projects within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Coordinate day-to-day project engineering and construction activities for brownfield and greenfield projects
- Assist with project scope development, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and contractor coordination
- Review engineering drawings, equipment layouts, construction packages, and technical documentation
- Manage contractors and subcontractors throughout all phases of project execution
- Monitor project schedules, construction progress, safety performance, and quality standards
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize production disruptions during project execution
- Assist with installation oversight, equipment commissioning, startup activities, and project closeout
- Develop and manage technical bid packages and evaluate contractor/vendor proposals
- Support implementation and monitoring of site safety and quality control programs
- Participate in project meetings and provide routine updates regarding schedule, costs, risks, and construction progress
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external engineering/construction firms to ensure successful project delivery
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing processes, plant infrastructure, and operational efficiency
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related engineering discipline preferred
- 10 years of Project Engineering, Construction Management, or Capital Project experience within heavy industrial or manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting industrial construction and manufacturing projects from concept through commissioning
- Knowledge of industrial equipment installation, piping systems, structural systems, utilities, and manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, cost controls, budgeting, and contractor management
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment
- Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams and contractors
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD or similar software
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and industrial construction best practices
Preferred Experience
- Aluminum, steel, metals, chemical, paper, automotive, or other heavy manufacturing experience
- Greenfield and brownfield capital project experience
- Industrial equipment installation and commissioning
- Shutdown/turnaround project support
- EPC or owner-side project engineering experience
