Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Histology/Cytology Manager, the Cytotechnologist is responsible for the technical and operational functions within the Cytology Section. The role includes performing cytological analyses, managing workflow, and ensuring accurate specimen evaluation to support timely diagnostic results.
The Cytotechnologist will perform ThinPrep screening (GYN automated-assisted PAP screening, Non-GYN, STAT reads, and FNAs), special cytological preparations, and evaluate specimens from various anatomic sites for interpretation using appropriate criteria for both immediate and same-day microscopic examination.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform daily cytology duties, including specimen preparation, screening, and evaluation.
· Conduct ThinPrep GYN and Non-GYN automated-assisted PAP screenings.
· Evaluate and interpret cytological specimens using established diagnostic criteria.
· Assist with fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures and STAT evaluations as needed.
· Ensure quality control and compliance with laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
· Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory managers, and other medical staff to optimize cytology workflows.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of findings and results.
· Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
· Certification: Cytotechnologist – ASCP
· Experience:
o Minimum 4 years of job-related experience (required)
o Minimum 1 year of cytology-specific experience (required)
· Education: Not specified (Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or related field typically required)
· Shift: Days; no call required
· Floating: May be required
