Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Network Engineer to support and maintain enterprise-level mainframe network infrastructure in a hybrid working environment. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in mainframe networking technologies, TCP/IP configuration, VTAM, and z/OS systems administration. This role requires collaboration with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of mainframe network services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, implement, and support mainframe network infrastructure.
- Manage and troubleshoot TCP/IP, VTAM, and SNA network environments on IBM z/OS systems.
- Monitor network performance and resolve connectivity, latency, and communication issues.
- Support mainframe connectivity with distributed systems and enterprise applications.
- Perform network configuration changes, upgrades, patching, and system maintenance activities.
- Analyze system logs, network traces, and performance metrics for issue resolution.
- Work closely with security teams to implement and maintain network security standards and compliance requirements.
- Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and high-availability initiatives.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
- Participate in on-call support and production issue resolution when required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, middleware, and application support teams.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in Mainframe Network Engineering or Mainframe Systems Administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM z/OS environments.
- Expertise in TCP/IP, VTAM, SNA, and mainframe communication protocols.
- Experience with IBM Communications Server and network performance tuning.
- Knowledge of JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and system utilities.
- Experience supporting secure network connectivity and troubleshooting network-related issues.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts including DNS, routing, and firewalls.
- Experience with automation and monitoring tools in mainframe environments.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in banking, financial services, healthcare, or large enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of RACF security administration and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Experience with hybrid cloud integration and enterprise connectivity solutions.
- IBM Mainframe certifications are a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
