We're seeking an experienced finance leader who wants to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a well-established utility and infrastructure contractor. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll serve as both the financial leader of the organization and a trusted business partner, helping guide operational and strategic decisions across the company.

This role offers significant visibility, autonomy, and influence. You'll collaborate daily with executive leadership, partner closely with project managers, and lead a talented accounting team while helping modernize financial processes and systems.

The Opportunity

As Controller, you'll oversee the company's accounting and financial operations while providing strategic financial guidance to leadership.

You'll lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, payroll oversight, project accounting, and month-end close while ensuring the business has accurate, timely financial information to support sound decision-making.

This position also plays a key role in the company's transition from Foundation ERP to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, making prior experience with Business Central highly desirable.

What You'll Do

Financial Leadership

• Lead all accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Treasury, and Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP

• Develop budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses

• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes

• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies

Construction & Project Accounting

• Oversee construction accounting, job costing, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting

• Monitor project profitability and financial performance

• Partner with Project Managers to support project budgeting and reporting

• Review customer invoicing, contract billing, and project financial activity

• Ensure prevailing wage reporting and compliance requirements are met

Leadership & Business Partnership

• Partner directly with the CEO on financial strategy and business planning

• Lead and develop the accounting team, including payroll, Accounts Payable, invoicing support, and the Assistant Controller

• Collaborate with operations and project management teams to improve profitability and financial performance

• Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting, and business processes

• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to executive leadership

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Minimum of five years of progressive accounting leadership experience

• Prior Controller or senior accounting leadership experience within the construction, utilities, infrastructure, heavy civil, or energy industries

• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting

• Experience with prevailing wage payroll and compliance

• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central (Required)

• Strong understanding of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, payroll, and internal controls

• Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
