The Human Resources Manager at Renovation Church oversees all core HR functions, including hiring and onboarding, payroll administration, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws and best practices. GIFTEDNESS AND ABILITIES
Required
- 3 years of experience in human resources management or a generalist HR role
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, payroll practices, and HR operations
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
- Proficiency with payroll systems and common office software
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a ministry environment
Preferred
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM‑CP, or similar)
- Experience working in a church, nonprofit, or faith-based organization
- Familiarity with Minnesota employment laws
- Experience supporting organizations with 20–50 employees
RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring & Onboarding
- Lead and manage the full-cycle hiring process for all staff positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and offer processes
- Partner with Directors to clarify staffing needs and job descriptions
- Ensure consistent, equitable, and legally compliant hiring practices
- Oversee onboarding for new hires, including orientation, paperwork, training coordination, and first 90-day support
Payroll & Compensation
- Manage payroll processing in coordination with finance/accounting staff as well as external payroll providers
- Ensure accurate classification of employees and contractors (exempt/non‑exempt)
- Maintain payroll records, timekeeping systems, and compensation data
- Support annual compensation reviews and adjustments in alignment with leadership direction and budget
Human Resources Operations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions related to HR policies, benefits, payroll, and employment practices
- Maintain employee personnel files and HR systems with accuracy and confidentiality
- Administer benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and communication
- Track and manage employee leaves, accommodations, and workplace needs
Employee Relations & Culture
- Support a healthy, Christ-centered workplace culture rooted in trust, accountability, and care
- Provide guidance to leadership and staff on employee relations matters, conflict resolution, and performance concerns
- Assist managers with performance management processes, feedback, and documentation
- Promote staff development, well-being, and retention
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Maintain and update employee handbook, HR policies, and procedures
- Support investigations, documentation, and corrective action processes when needed
- Assist with audits, insurance requests, and HR-related reporting
Strategic HR Support
- Advise executive leadership in regards to organizational health and HR best practices
- Support workforce planning and organizational growth initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, processes, and staff experience
Report Directly to the Operations Director
- Meet regularly with the Operations Director to report strengths and weaknesses of the ministry, to be held accountable for job responsibilities, and also to better develop personal leadership.
