Registered Dietician-Clinical Nutritionist

Position Summary:

Under the Diabetes Program Division Manager, the Nutritionist is a Registered Dietician (or eligible to become one within 90 days of hire) who plans, organizes, and directs programs and activities dealing with the promotion of health through the application of evidence-based clinical nutrition. Provides medical nutrition therapy to pediatrics, elders, and at-risk groups and provides assessment and documentation as required. Assist with other activities as directed.

Duties:

• Plans, organizes, and directs programs and activities for the Health Center as required
• Provides individual nutrition and health education to RSIC enrolled members, emphasis placed on the treatment of the specialized population of the RSIC community;
• Provides the nutrition support for the Health Care Team including patients attending

Diabetes Clinic and Well child checkups;

• Develops an individual nutrition program for Diabetes (Type 1 & Type 2) and prevention patients in coordination with their health care providers and diabetes team;
• Assist healthcare providers and Division Manager in planning and implementing a prenatal and postpartum nutrition program for gestational and at-risk participants;
• Develops and distributes nutrition education material for the Center and Community;
• Provides referred clients with an evaluation and objective-based nutritional care plan via individual counseling;
• When required, as a member of the Diabetes Team (to include Diabetes Division

Manager and physical trainers), will provide appropriate nutrition information;

• Assists Division Manager in developing budget for nutrition program and performs related work as required by the Health & Human Services Director;
• Documents visits and maintains required reporting documents on timely basis for Indian

Health Service reporting and program evaluation;

• Prepares the nutrition monthly, quarterly, and annual reports;
• When required, contributes to presentations, food demonstrations, and events in Reno and Hungry Valley;
• Provides alternative food preparation methods to specific groups (Commodity Food

Program and others) upon request;

• Assists Senior Program staff in menu development and certifies menu;
• Contributes to the monthly Diabetes Program and RSTHC newsletters;
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Minimum Qualifications:
• Registered Dietitian or pass certification exam within 90days of hire required
• Master’s Degree in nutrition from and accredited college or University, and clinical experience working with diverse populations in public health preferred
• Experience in clinical and community nutrition preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years working in the health and human services industry preferred;
• Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications within first three months of hire;
• Physical ability to lift, stand, and assist participants as needed;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals.

Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment;

• Ability to work extended hours according to the needs of the participants.
• Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license.
• Must able to pass a TB test or provide documentation of a recent TB test;
• Preference to qualified Natives will be given.

Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes.
