About the Role
Renesas Electronics is seeking an experienced Senior Digital Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to drive the expansion of our market-leading digital product portfolio (MCUs & SoCs) across major Automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.
Based out of our Farmington Hills, MI hub, you will serve as the primary technical authority and trusted advisor to customer engineering teams. You will bridge customer requirements with internal product architecture, influencing the definition of next-generation Renesas Automotive products across IVI, ADAS, xEV, and Vehicle Controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Design-In & Technical Advisory: Drive technical design-in activities for Renesas’ digital portfolio (MCUs & SoCs) with key automotive OEM and Tier-1 engineering teams.
- Architecture & System Design: Derive complex customer system requirements to propose optimized hardware/software architectures, leveraging Linux, QNX, AUTOSAR, and RTOS environments.
- Product Definition & Roadmapping: Collaborate directly with internal technical marketing, system architects, and application engineering teams to define next-generation product roadmaps and technical specs based on real-world market trends.
- Lab Bring-Up & Validation: Perform hands-on system bring-up, measurement, testing, and debugging in the laboratory using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and specialized lab equipment.
- Customer Alignment & Project Leadership: Partner with Sales and Marketing departments to achieve strategic design-win targets while cultivating deep technical relationships across customer engineering leadership.
- Collateral & Demonstrators: Develop high-impact technical collateral including application notes, competitive fighting guides, whitepapers, and integrated hardware/software system demonstrators.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience, including 3 years directly in automotive applications (IVI, ADAS, Powertrain/xEV, or Body/Chassis).
- Domain Expertise: Proven track record as a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) or Customer Application Engineer supporting Microcontrollers (MCUs) and System-on-Chips (SoCs).
- Software & OS Depth: Proficient in multi-threaded programming, IPC, OS concepts, and middleware development across Linux, QNX, AUTOSAR, or RTOS platforms.
- Automotive Standards: Strong working knowledge of Automotive Functional Safety (ISO 26262), Cybersecurity standards, Vehicle Networking (CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, LIN), and system-level Power/Thermal management.
- Hands-On Bench Skills: Demonstrated experience with hands-on board bring-up, hardware debugging, and standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Communication: Exceptional presentation, interpersonal, and technical consulting skills with the ability to lead technical discussions with customer System Architects and Executives.
