What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coding Instructor position at Renaissance Youth Center?
The instructor teaches elementary, middle, and high school-level students (approximately ages 6 -18) through Renaissance Youth Centers structured STEAM education and extended-day programs, including after-school instruction. Instruct students from ages 6-18 individually and in groups on computer science subjects, such as coding and robotics, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
Create and implement coding, robotics, and technology curriculum designed for students between the ages of 6 and 18.
Provide instruction through curriculum-based and project-oriented learning that emphasizes algorithms, logic, debugging, and engineering design.
Provide instruction in introductory coding fundamentals and problem-solving to promote STEM skill development, using block-based platforms, such as Scratch and age-appropriate text-based programming languages including Python, JavaScript, and introductory HTML/CSS.
Prepare materials, such as kid-friendly tablets, STEM kits, robots, or other digital tools designed for early learners, and classrooms for class activities.
Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
Prepare students for local, regional, and national STEM competitions through structured, curriculum-based instruction as part of the instructional program.
Utilize a gamified instructional framework referred to as STEM Circus as an educational method to engage students through interactive coding, games, and hands-on STEM activities using age-appropriate programming languages and platforms.
Support students continued development in technology, coding, and robotics by applying learned concepts to real-world, project-based problem-solving using age-appropriate sensors, circuits, and physical computing tools through structured projects and competitions.
