Position Overview
The Assistant Controller position reports to and supports the Controller by overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, focusing heavily on job costing, WIP reporting, and subcontractor management. This role requires a strong understanding of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, lien waivers, and construction software, often acting as a bridge between project management and finance.
Responsibilities
o Oversee financial operations including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll backup, and cash flow management.
o Maintain construction code costs, project financial tracking, and prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
o Assists Controller by providing financial projections/accounting services and preparing growth plans.
o Identifying solutions to discrepancies in financial records.
o Creates internal controls and policies.
o Assists with developing financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; and developing action plans.
o Assists with developing/maintaining the system of internal accounting controls and financial reporting.
o Assists with quarterly accounting reviews, annual audits, general ledger reconciliations and tax returns.
o Maintain state registrations, business, and tax licenses, etc.
o Manage the sales tax process.
o Work with Senior Management and Operations Managers to ensure financial directives are followed.
o Provide guidance to accounting staff and act as a backup to the Controller.
o Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
o Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience.
o Understanding of revenue recognition methods for construction.
o 5 years of progressive accounting experience, specifically in construction or development.
o Prior Construction experience, preferably within General Contractor setting.
o Experience in a management position.
o Proficiency in construction-specific accounting software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
o Well-rounded understanding of revenue recognition methods for construction.

Salary : $100,000 - $115,000
