Position Summary:
The Evening Farrower plays a key role in the daily care and management of sows and newborn piglets in the farrowing department. This position focuses on ensuring the health, comfort, and productivity of animals during and after the farrowing (birthing) process. Ideal candidates are dependable, detail-oriented, and passionate about animal care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and assist sows during the farrowing process to ensure safe and successful births.
- Provide newborn piglet care, including drying, warming, ensuring colostrum intake, and processing as required.
- Check and maintain piglet health and well-being through the evening shift.
- Maintain clean, safe, and biosecure farrowing rooms and equipment.
- Administer treatments or vaccinations as directed.
- Record accurate and timely data on births and treatments.
- Follow all company protocols and animal welfare standards.
- Communicate any issues or concerns with supervisors and team members.
- Support other swine production tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Previous livestock or farm experience preferred (swine experience a plus).
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and animal well-being.
- Reliable transportation and good attendance record.
- Willingness to follow biosecurity protocols.
