Service Engineer

Salary: $60,000–$85,000 annually

Position Overview

Reliance One is hiring a Service Engineer for a leading designer, manufacturer, installer, and service provider of automotive automation and material-handling systems.

The Service Engineer will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automated equipment and material-handling systems. This position works with electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems and supports projects from installation through final customer acceptance.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with equipment such as Power & Free conveyors, skid conveyors, friction-drive systems, fork transfers, part carriers, and other automotive automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
• Identify and analyze equipment failures and complete the necessary repairs.
• Order and replace parts while maintaining accurate consignment inventory records.
• Observe equipment during operation, execute test cycles, and use precision measuring and testing instruments to identify problems.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to site-specific procedures and operation and maintenance manuals.
• Complete assigned site-specific projects.
• Interpret engineering drawings and assist installation crews throughout installation, commissioning, and final customer acceptance.
• Understand project schedules and coordinate site activities needed for the successful implementation of material-handling systems.
• Perform structural design and analysis, including related calculations.
• Communicate with on-site project teams and engineering groups to resolve technical issues.
• Support equipment commissioning and modifications to existing systems.
• Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products, systems, or services.
• Select and manage subcontractors, project schedules, and budgets as assigned.
• Supervise associates and skilled trades when required.
• Maintain a strong focus on customer service, safety, quality, and timely problem resolution.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, automation engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent education and experience.
• Two to five or more years of experience in material-handling or conveyor engineering within the automotive industry is desirable.
• Two to five or more years of experience in a construction or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience in a field construction environment is highly desirable.
• Experience debugging equipment during commissioning or modifications.
• Machinery installation experience is preferred.
• Ability to select and manage subcontractors, schedules, and budgets.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to gather customer requirements and translate them into functional technical specifications.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, skilled trades, and project teams.
• Ability to adapt proactively to changing project needs and priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and general computer applications.
• At least two years of experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, or another 3D modeling program.
  
  

Physical And Scheduling Requirements

• Ability to work weekends, nights, overtime, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to travel to job sites throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
• Ability to navigate industrial conveyor systems, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and equipment access areas.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift between 25 and 50 pounds.
