About the Position
The Residential HVAC Estimator will meet with homeowners, evaluate their heating and air conditioning needs, inspect existing HVAC systems, and prepare accurate estimates and proposals for replacement, repair, and upgrade projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong residential HVAC knowledge and experience with Manual J load calculations and Manual D duct design. This position requires the ability to properly evaluate a home's heating and cooling requirements and develop HVAC solutions based on the home's specific needs.
This is a customer-facing position requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, HVAC knowledge, and the ability to provide professional recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Meet with residential homeowners at scheduled appointments.
Inspect and evaluate existing HVAC systems.
Measure existing HVAC equipment and related components.
Perform or review Manual J residential heating and cooling load calculations.
Perform or review Manual D residential duct design and sizing.
Evaluate existing ductwork and identify potential airflow and sizing issues.
Determine appropriate HVAC equipment based on calculated heating and cooling loads.
Develop properly sized HVAC system recommendations rather than relying solely on existing equipment size.
Determine equipment, materials, labor, ductwork, and other project requirements.
Prepare accurate residential HVAC estimates and proposals.
Present HVAC replacement and upgrade options to customers.
Clearly explain equipment options, project scope, pricing, and recommendations.
Follow up with customers on estimates and proposals.
Communicate effectively with technicians, installers, management, suppliers, and office personnel.
Coordinate information necessary to move approved projects toward completion.
Assist with job billing and documentation.
Maintain accurate customer, equipment, estimate, Manual J, Manual D, and project records.
Identify potential project issues and communicate them to management.
Provide exceptional customer experience throughout the estimating process.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What We're Looking For
Previous residential HVAC experience required.
Previous HVAC estimating or residential HVAC sales experience strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience with Manual J load calculations.
Hands-on experience with Manual D duct design and sizing.
Strong understanding of residential heating and air conditioning systems.
Experience with residential HVAC equipment replacement and system upgrades.
Understanding proper HVAC system sizing based on Manual J calculations.
Ability to evaluate existing ductwork, airflow, and distribution systems.
Ability to read and interpret residential HVAC plans and specifications.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to accurately measure HVAC equipment, homes, and job requirements.
Ability to prepare professional estimates and proposals.
Comfortable communicating pricing and technical recommendations with homeowners.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computer-based estimating systems.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to grow.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
