Purpose of Role

The Payroll Specialist is accountable for the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll for the employee population. This role ensures the integrity of payroll data, adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, and responsive resolution of payroll-related inquiries. The Payroll Specialist supports organizational trust by ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time.

Areas of Accountabilities

Payroll Processing

  • Accountable for end-to-end payroll processing accuracy and timeliness across all pay cycles.

  • Ensures all employee pay adjustments, ad-hoc gifts and bonuses, and PTO are accurately reflected in payroll systems.

  • Reviews and processes timecard exceptions and timesheet data, and reconciles payroll totals.

  • Executes payroll processes in accordance with practices established by Payroll/Total Rewards leadership.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensures payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including wage and hour requirements.

  • Prepares relevant historical and factual data as requested by Payroll and Benefits management in response to government agency requests and audits.

Data Integrity & Systems

  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of payroll and employee data within ADP WorkforceNow.

  • Ensures payroll records are complete, auditable, and properly documented.

  • Processes all ADP termination steps including submission reviews, final checks, and all applicable final documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.

  • Hands-on experience with ADP WorkforceNow or other HRIS for payroll processing, adjustments, and reporting.

  • Working knowledge of payroll regulations, including wage and hour, garnishments, and unemployment processes.

  • Proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables) and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring payroll deadlines.

  • Ability to handle confidential employee data with discretion and sound judgment.

  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
