What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truancy Outreach Specialist position at Regional Office of Education # 17?
Summary
Seeking a dedicated and highly organized individual to resolve student school attendance issues by working with parents and school personnel to reduce the number of unexcused absences, excessive absences, and tardiness.
Duties
- Establish communication with School Personnel, School Resource Officers, State's Attorneys, and other law enforcement personnel.
- Facilitate communication between parents, students, and school personnel and seek avenues of resolutions for disputes that may arise.
- Educate parents about the long-term effects and risks of truant behavior while supporting parental efforts to motive their student to improve school performance.
- Monitor student attendance and academic progress through school visits.
- Maintain detailed documentation for each contact made and the services provided.
- Initiate procedures for a hearing before the Truancy Review Board.
Qualifications
- A background in Juvenile Justice or similar field is preferred.
- The ability to retain a knowledge base of the laws and statues governing Truancy and school attendance as well as the commitment to stay informed as laws and statues change.
- Training in Trauma Informed and Restorative practices is required. This training can be facilitated by ROE #17 for the ideal candidate.
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel within ROE 17's four county region.
- Proficiency in Google Mail, Sheets and Docs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally in written and verbal communication.
- Have the abililty to keep detailed and organized records.
