What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician position at Regional Medical Center?
Schedule: Typically 4 days per week, 8 hour shifts, hours between 0700-1730, weekend rotation of every 4th weekend, and holiday rotation of 1-2 holidays per year.
This position performs functions of the Pharmacy Department in accordance with hospital and departmental standards and policies.
- Responsible for obtaining accurate medication history from patients and gathering information for an accurate medication list.
- Responsible for medication reconciliation data entry into EMR.
- Responsible for performing the patient billing functions for all pharmacy items
- Receives all new drug inventory orders and verifies accurate pricing
- Responsible for all inventory-stocking procedures
- Performs monthly inspection of all medication areas
- Removes outdated medications from shelves, automated dispensing equipment, and other stock areas and processes returns of such
- Performs clerical duties
- Fills medication kits
- Assists in assuring security of all pharmaceuticals
- Communicates department needs to appropriate personnel
- Packages unit dose medications when needed and documents necessary information
- Restocks automated dispensing equipment and resolves discrepancies
- Processes and fills outpatient prescriptions
- Responsible for entering vaccinations into IRIS
- IV compounding is a requirement of the position if necessary to the operation of the department and training complete
- Completion of education and certification as a Pharmacy Technician required within 1 year of technician trainee status per the Iowa Board of Pharmacy requirements
- Hospital pharmacy experience preferred
- BLS certified
- Child and Dependent Adult mandatory Reporter Training required
