Join Our Team as a Surgical Counselor – Be the Guide Patients Trust Most

Are you passionate about helping others and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives? Do you thrive in a dynamic healthcare setting and enjoy providing compassionate, informative support to patients? We’re looking for a Surgical Counselor to join our dedicated team and play a vital role in preparing patients for life-changing surgical procedures that impact their vision and quality of life.

Position Overview
As a Surgical Counselor, you'll be the key point of contact for patients preparing for surgery. Under the guidance of the Surgical Counselor Coordinator, you will help patients navigate the surgical process—from scheduling to post-op planning—while ensuring they are informed, comfortable, and confident in their care. You'll also serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, and surgical facilities, ensuring a smooth and seamless surgical journey.

What You’ll Do

  • Meet one-on-one with patients to educate them about upcoming surgical procedures, answering questions and providing reassurance.
  • Explain the difference between premium and standard intraocular lenses (IOLs) for cataract surgery, helping patients make informed decisions.
  • Provide personalized surgery packets and review each document thoroughly with the patient.
  • Ensure all pre-surgery documentation is complete, including consents, test results, and lens selections.
  • Communicate prescriptions to pharmacies and educate patients on proper usage and purpose.
  • Accurately enter and verify surgical information in patient software systems, confirming procedure types and details with physicians.
  • Schedule pre-op and post-op appointments in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with surgical facilities regarding scheduling, updates, or missing information.
  • Stay current on surgical technologies and premium lens options to effectively answer patient questions.
  • Take patient vital signs when needed and assist with reporting and administrative tasks.
  • Respond promptly to patient inquiries and provide support throughout their surgical experience.

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting.
  • At least 1 year of surgical counseling experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic medical coding and insurance billing is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A compassionate and patient-centered approach with strong attention to detail.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Be part of a supportive, mission-driven team that values empathy and excellence.
  • Help patients gain better vision and improve their quality of life.
  • Gain valuable experience in surgical coordination and patient education.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development.
  • A stable work environment in a respected healthcare organization.
