Our Teachers develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. This role provides individualized and specialized instruction and/or training services to adult students working towards gaining English language skills and/or GED/High School Equivalency. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
Essential Functions:
- Designs coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, Adult Education standards, student needs, and curriculum goals;
- Evaluates student progress; provides specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and reporting documents;
- Selects, evaluates, and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement of students in learning;
- Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population;
- Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions;
- Performs related duties as assigned by the corrections institution in accordance with the institution’s policies and practices

Education and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
Preferred
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Employment Terms: This position is classified as an as hourly support role. The schedule for this position will be considered
part-time and structured on an hourly, as needed basis. This position is evaluated annually.
