Job Title: Quality Control Lead

Department: Production

Reports to: Production Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt

Job Summary:

The Quality Control Lead owns the quality assurance process on the production floor — guiding a team of inspectors, enforcing inspection and testing standards, and driving the improvements that keep defects out of finished products. This role ensures every refurbished device meets or exceeds quality benchmarks before it ships, protecting the customer experience, reducing returns, and reinforcing Refreshed Tech’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and sustainability. The Quality Control Lead balances quality, throughput, cost, and data-security compliance in a fast-moving production environment while developing the people who perform the work.

Essential Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of quality-control associates, providing performance guidance, training, and support.

  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth workflow and efficient operations.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to maximize team performance.

  • Define, maintain, and enforce inspection criteria, testing protocols, and cosmetic grading standards so every device meets or exceeds industry benchmarks.

  • Conduct regular inspections, quality audits, and inspector calibration to ensure consistent, reliable grading across the team.

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues, defects, and non-conformances promptly.

  • Maintain a clean and organized inspection area, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

  • Functionally test and inspect a wide range of devices — laptops, smartphones, tablets, and more — and verify repairs before product moves downstream.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends, repair techniques, and testing methods.

  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to team members as needed, serving as the resource for difficult grading calls.

  • Own team performance against key metrics — first-pass yield, defect/escape rate, return and RMA rates, inspection throughput, and grading accuracy.

  • Track and analyze KPI data to identify trends, address inefficiencies, and keep the team on target.

  • Investigate recurring defects, returns, and escapes, trace them to their source, and partner with production to implement corrective actions.

  • Continuously evaluate inspection and testing workflows for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce defects, rework, and cost, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality processes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and enhance productivity.

  • Ensure every device is securely wiped and that data-sanitization procedures are followed, verified, and documented to protect customer information and maintain compliance.

  • Maintain detailed inspection logs, non-conformance reports, and audit records.

  • Generate regular quality and performance reports for management review.

  • Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of quality issues.

Competencies/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Proven experience in electronic device testing, inspection, or quality control.
