What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Unreal Graphics Engineer – UE5 (Sports / Action / Simulation Games) position at Refactor Games?
Refactor Games is a AAA sports video game studio. We are developing the next generation of professional football (soccer) video games using Unreal Engine 5.
We are looking for a Senior Unreal Graphics Engineer to help us achieve world-class visuals for our next-generation football game built in Unreal Engine 5. You will push visual fidelity while maintaining solid performance on both console and PC. Your job is to ensure that stadiums, crowds, players, lighting, pitch surfaces, and weather effects look and feel authentic and dynamic, similar to the best visuals seen in leading football games.

Experience:
- 6 years of professional game programming experience in graphics and engine development in Unreal 4 or 5 for consoles, PC, and mobile.
- At least 2 shipped AAA titles, bonus points for sports titles.
What You'll Work On:
- Collaborate with artists to realize stylized or realistic visual targets for environments, characters, and VFX
- Drive performance analysis and optimization focusing on memory usage, rendering efficiency and frame stability across multiple target platforms including console, PC, and mobile
- Author new shaders and VFX
- Develop and maintain tools and pipelines for artists
- Research and develop new graphics tools and technology to continually improve the rendering capabilities of the game engine.
Requirements:
- Strong C/C skills with expertise in GPU/CPU optimization and multithreading
- Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine material editor, shader development, and rendering pipeline
- Experience with shader languages (HLSL/GLSL) and real-time graphics APIs
- Skilled at performance analysis, optimization, and debugging
- Strong math skills
- An avid gamer with a passion for making games and game technology
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering
- Experience with DirectX, HLSL, and GPU programming
- Interest in the latest rendering technologies, techniques, hardware, and API’s
Bonus Points:
- Experience with broadcast-style visual effects (depth of field, camera grain, chromatic aberration).
- Experience with player likeness rendering and dynamic crowd rendering.
- Love of football (soccer) - hooliganism is never frowned upon.
