Refactor Games is a

. We are developing the next generation of professional
football (soccer) video games
using
Unreal Engine 5
.
We're building reactive, positionally aware AI that understands space, tactics, and timing like a real footballer. We're looking for a Senior AI Engineer who knows how to design dynamic behaviors and positioning logic for player agents in a soccer video game. This is about more than just pathfinding. You'll build systems that let players track runs, press intelligently, defend zones, and anticipate passes in a way that feels human.

**
Experience:
- 5 years developing games for console and/or PC, ideally in sports or competitive multiplayer.
- At least 1 shipped high-quality football (soccer) title or a similar sports game.
What You'll Work On:
- Work with cross functional team or engineers, animators, and designers on developing and optimizing NPC AI behaviors for sports simulation games
- Architect, design, and implement highly efficient, tunable, and flexible NPC AI systems
- Develop and optimize AI features using Unreal Engine Blueprints and C
- Provide direction and advice on technical decisions, architecture, and workflow optimization to ensure successful AI integration
- Set high standards for code quality, performance, and maintainability
Requirements:
- 5 years of experience building real-time AI for games
- Strong knowledge of decision trees, utility AI, state machines, and blackboard systems
- Deep understanding of soccer tactics and positional play
- Experience with Unreal Engine 5 behavior trees, EQS, and AI controllers
- Proficient in C with strong debugging and profiling skills
Bonus Points:
- Built AI for sports, RTS, or squad-based shooter titles
- Experience with adaptive difficulty or player modeling
- Love of football—especially if you know what a regista or inverted fullback is
