Position Summary:
The Construction Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting for construction projects. This role ensures projects remain financially viable by monitoring project costs, forecasting budgets, managing cash flow, and supporting project managers with financial analysis and decision-making. The position acts as a key liaison between finance, project management, and executive leadership.
Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Budget Management
- Develop and manage project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor construction project costs, commitments, and expenditures.
- Perform variance analysis and provide recommendations to control costs.
- Support project managers with financial planning and resource allocation.
Project Financial Oversight
- Track project financial performance from preconstruction through project closeout.
- Review contracts, change orders, and subcontractor agreements for financial impact.
- Ensure accurate cost coding and job costing within financial systems.
- Manage contingency tracking and cost projections.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and dashboards for leadership.
- Analyze cost trends, margins, and profitability across projects.
- Provide financial insights to improve project efficiency and profitability.
- Support financial audits and compliance requirements.
Cash Flow & Funding Management
- Forecast project cash flow and funding requirements.
- Coordinate draw requests, lender reporting, and investor updates where applicable.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable related to project activities.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, and procurement teams.
- Support preconstruction efforts including cost modeling and financial feasibility analysis.
- Train project teams on financial processes and best practices.
- Lead or support finance staff responsible for construction accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or related field.
- MBA or CPA preferred (not always required).
- 5-7 years of finance or accounting experience in the construction, real estate development, or project-based industries preferred.
- Experience with job costing, project budgeting, and construction financial reporting.
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial software.
- Experience with construction ERP systems (e.g., Procore, Sage, Viewpoint, CMiC).
- Knowledge of construction contracts and cost structures.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
