Summary
The Engineering Intern will support the Engineering Supervisor and senior engineers in executing specific projects related to the aerospace and defense industry. This position encompasses various engineering disciplines, including Systems, Mechanical, Software, Electrical, Production, and Aerospace Engineering. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience aligned with the intern’s academic focus and Edge Autonomy’s strategic objectives. This position may require access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). To comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants will be asked to provide specific documentation to verify a US person’s status under the ITAR and the EAR.
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.

Responsibilities

- Gain insight into the daily responsibilities of engineers in the aerospace and defense sector.
- Read and interpret engineering work products (models, drawings, schematics) relevant to the intern's discipline and compare them with actual hardware.
- Learn methods for investigating and diagnosing issues with abnormally performing equipment, developing critical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience the engineering interface with production teams, including support and handoffs necessary for efficient workflow in a highly regulated environment.
- Engage in quality control inspections and learn about discrepancy disposition processes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stringent standards.
- Participate in an engineering project from conception (problem statement) to completion (delivery of design, documentation, or processes):
- Define project goals and deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Maintain timelines and project documentation.
- Assist in the creation, review, and release of engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Engage in testing activities, gaining practical experience in validating designs and ensuring product functionality within the aerospace and defense context.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Electrical or Systems Engineering or other relevant discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in aerospace and defense applications.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a readiness to collaborate in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with engineering software and tools relevant to the specific discipline.
- Proven track record of creating and managing technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
