What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Programmer Consultant position at Red Sun Technology?
We are looking for a Senior Programmer Consultant to support the client’s enterprise application team as an expert-level Java developer working on a large, business-critical retirement and benefits platform. This role will focus on analysis, functional design, Java application development, code review, issue triage, testing support, technical documentation, and knowledge transfer. The consultant will work closely with business and technical teams in both waterfall and agile delivery environments, participate in JAR/JAD sessions, support UAT, and ensure all deliverables align with client IT standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Requirements
- 10 years of application development experience
- Strong senior-level Java programming experience
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale application systems and sub-systems
- Hands-on experience with analysis, functional design, development, code review, and testing
- Experience participating in JAR and JAD sessions
- Experience supporting both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies
- Strong defect triage and root cause analysis experience
- Experience creating technical artifacts, design documentation, and status reporting
- Experience supporting UAT and collaborating with business users, SMEs, testers, and technical teams
- Experience with knowledge transfer, code commenting, cross-training, and documentation handoff
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with contract managers and state personnel
- Experience following formal IT policies, standards, procedures, and governance controls
- Prior public sector or large pension/benefits system experience is preferred
