Position Summary
The General and Operations Manager directs, coordinates, and oversees the work of subordinate supervisors and employees. Plan and schedule work to be accomplished by subordinates, set, and adjust short-term priorities. Assign work in consideration of employee skills and mission requirements. Exercise significant responsibilities dealing with headquarters' personnel, senior commanders, and staff officers of other units, organizations, and commands. Advise high-ranking management of functions, activities and services provided. Advise, counsel, or instruct employees on work and administrative matters. Make and/or resolve decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors. Develop performance standards. Evaluate subordinate supervisors' work performance and serve as a reviewing official of subordinates' supervisors' workers. Improve production or increase the quality of work directed. Interview candidates and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments to positions in the unit. Make or approve selections for subordinate non-supervisory positions and recommend selections for subordinate supervisory positions. Hear and resolve employee complaints and refer group grievances, or more serious unresolved complaints, to a higher-level supervisor. Approve expenses comparable to within-grade increases, employee travel, etc. Recommend awards or bonuses for non-supervisory personnel and changes in position classification. Provide technical supervision for field and sustainment maintenance on surface equipment issued to the unit.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinating logistics, inventory management, and supply chain activities to support efficient operations
- Providing guidance and support to warehouse staff, supervisors, and team leads to achieve operational excellence
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and present solutions for the PM/APM.
- Direct non-functional area departments of businesses, such as safety, quality, procurement and maintenance.
- Direct administrative activities directly related to operation of the contract, but not specific to a functional area (supply or transportation).
- Provide direction to environmental safety personnel to review, improve and implement environmental management and sustainability programs addressing issues such as recycling, conservation, or waste management.
- Review warehouse layouts and storage plans to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Support facility management; ensure maintenance tickets and facility issues are reported and fixed in timely fashion.
- Prepare staff work schedules and assign specific duties, as required.
- Review quality reports and performance metrics to measure productivity or goal achievement or to identify areas needing process or program improvement.
- Perform personnel functions, such as selection, training, or evaluation as required.
- Work with PM/APM to establish operational deadlines, formulate policies, and develop procedures that enhance productivity and support the organization’s objectives.
- Identify complex operational challenges; analyze data from sections and other information to develop effective solutions and implement action plans.
- Support and enforce an environment of respect with no tolerance for discrimination per EEO nor sexual harassment/assault.
- In the absence of the PM/APM may attend meetings with customers or the government in their stead.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide guidance and support to project management personnel (i.e. – Safety & Environmental Health personnel, Supply Systems Analyst, Storage Specialist, Janitors/ Grounds Maintenance, etc.) and leads cross functional teams for internal CPIs.
Physical Demands
- Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
- Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Distribution Management, Business Management, or Business Administration.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in distribution management or logistics operations; five (5) years in a supervisory role within similar environments preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with automated warehouse management systems within the last three years.
- Strong knowledge of logistical processes, including inventory management, shipping/receiving, transportation and supply chain optimization.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Driver’s License without special restrictions.
