TITLE: Assistant Principal K-12
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Eleven (11) Months
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Administrative
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: At Red Mesa Unified School District, the Assistant Principal is responsible for the safety of all students, faculty and staff, and the leadership. The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in the supervision of school faculty, staff; and all activities occurring within the school, carrying out the policies of the Board of Education, and implementing the directions of the Superintendent of Schools. Plan and supervise the total school curriculum and development, evaluate new courses and programs, conduct staff development programs, initiate and implement a program of extra-curricular and special school activities, and budget development and procedures. Develop and design the master schedule, teacher, parent and student manual; and calendar of procedures for students. Monitor, coordinate and supervise the school operations, including but not limited to: students’ safety and achievement, staff evaluations, parent involvement, school safety, personnel decisions, faculty and staff performance, staff attendance, facility issues, school climate, data analysis and how it drives instruction, professional development, leadership training, and community partnerships. The Principal provides leadership in promoting the educational objectives and values of collaborative planning, district curriculum, effective instruction practices and responsive programs and services
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide educational leadership, administrative direction, supervision, and technical assistance
- Demonstrate and develop high academic and behavioral expectations, collaborative planning and program development, responsive management, and personal accountability
- Review results and/or scores of mandated pupil tests for the purpose of monitoring progress and identifying deficiencies
- Coordinate the dissemination of information, policies, regulations, procedures,
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of student and program assessment, data analysis, program development and evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, research related to learning and curriculum implementation.

- Serve as liaison between community agencies and district administrators and schools
- Conduct building inspections and classroom visitations to assess educational and operational effectiveness and assist school personnel to establish and maintain a positive learning and working environment
- Attend regular meetings, including principal meetings, as required by the Superintendent or others with such responsibility
- Provide guidance and available resources to school employees which will assist and maintain an effective educational environment
- Coordinate in-service training and professional development opportunities for staff
- Monitor student enrollment, staff and student attendance, requisitions, health and safety inspections, performance evaluations, curriculum benchmarks, violence and vandalism, standardized test results, and other school reports for accuracy, compliance, established timelines, and the identification of improvement objectives
- Coordinate orientation meetings, schedule development, disciplinary procedures, parental notification, and others.
- Ensure fair and consistent implementation of policies, regulations, procedures, discipline, promotion and graduation requirements
- Recognize staff and student activities and achievements
- Maintain a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students, and district and school staff.

- Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
- Observe strictly, to avoid the appearance of conflict, all requirements of the Policies regarding conflicts of interest in employment, purchasing, and other decisions, including solicitation and acceptance of gifts and favors, and submit in a timely fashion the required annual disclosure statement regarding employment and financial interests
- Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Superintendent and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation

Athletic Director Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible for the organization and administering of the overall athletic program for the middle and high school athletes of Red Mesa Unified School District.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members at the middle and high school level.
- Works collaboratively with the school district and community agencies and athletic program to include a variety of recreational and sports activities on a year-round basis.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hires officials, team physicians, and police officers as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when the opponent is 50 miles or more from a district boundary line.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletes.
- Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete’s eligibility.
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
- Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contests, and when admission is charged, is responsible for the safekeeping and deposit of gate receipts.
- Arranges field and gym practice schedules for all athletic teams.
- Provides for the physical examination of all athletes, at end of school year and at beginning of new school year.
- Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
- Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the rules and by laws of Arizona Interscholastic Association (A.I.A), NAIC, and NEAAA.
- Responsible for game management and attends all home athletic/interscholastic contests and/or arranges for proper supervision.
- Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams. Follow NO PASS – NO PLAY guidelines.
- Coordinates the use of athletic facilities with the respective building principal and by groups outside the district.
- Responsible for all recommendations for improvement of facilities, which will be directed through the line of authority to the superintendent for consideration or referral at his discretion.
- Assumes responsibility for assignment of keys to athletic facilities and gymnasium.
- Represents the school in all athletic business at league, conference and state meetings.
- Adheres to the requirements of State Law and school district policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the department.
- Ability to teamwork with each other as Co-Directors in a professional and ethical manner
- Ability to work together for the betterment of RMUSD student athletes
- Ability to perceive organization implications of recommendations and decisions.

- Informs the superintendent of successes, concerns, problems, and needs of the program.
- Schedules, organizes, and attends meetings as necessary.
CERTIFICATION: Hold an Arizona Administrative Certificate in accordance with the requirements Arizona Department of Education or be working to obtain such certification
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Education or Educational Administration, preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Have at least three (3) years of successful experience as a Principal, Dean of Student, Teacher on Assignment or Academic Coach or combined. Have at least two (2) years of experience as a teacher, counselor and/or supervisor/administrator preferred. Have experience working in a multicultural/rural; Navajo or Native American Preferred.
LICENSE: Arizona Principal Certification or be working towards it, Standard Teacher Education Certification, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

EVALUATION: The Principal is responsible for the appraisal of the Assistant Principals, which shall be conducted at least once annually.
