What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organic Farm Crew position at Red Fire Farm?
Interested in joining a diverse farm crew working to feed the community? We are seeking a few new folks to round out our incredible farm field crew. We are currently hiring for full-time seasonal farm crew positions to work at our Montague farm.
The farm is pretty big and you can expect to do a wide variety of tasks; a farm of this size offers a lot to learn within the different departments too. Tasks include harvesting the vegetables we grow, hand weeding, hoeing, transplanting, row cover, tomato trellising, greenhouse work and bulk crop harvest plus anything else that may pop up; you will rarely find yourself in the same field every day. The crew works hard but ultimately has a lot of fun.
Well qualified and interested applicants can be considered for a crew leader position. Crew leaders will be given a harvest list or list of field tasks to complete and assigned a crew of 3-4 people. They will be expected to help motivate their crew, move them from task to task, and complete the list as efficiently and timely as possible, with oversight from farm managers. Applicants MUST have a valid driver’s license to be considered for the crew leader position; no exceptions.
We highly encourage people with previous farming experience to apply but are willing to train the right people.
Requirements
- A desire and willingness to work outside (in the rain and the heat & cold too!)
- Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly and easily, and work physically all day
- Must work well in teams
- Must have a good attitude and be willing to learn
Schedule & Hours:
We are looking to hire immediately, and prefer people willing to work through November. The season ends anywhere between the first week of November and Thanksgiving (with hours decreasing then as the days get shorter). Some winter work is available.
In Montague the hours are generally, Monday – Friday 7 am – 5 pm or 6am-4pm, with optional work available on the weekends. We are looking for people to work at least 4 days a week; though full-time Monday through Friday availability is preferred.

Location: This position is based at 184 Meadow Road in Montague, Massachusetts.
Pay: $15.00/ hour to start, or based on experience
