What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Project Manager – Compliance & Utility Coordination position at Red E?
Location: Detroit, MI
Reports to: COO, Sr. Project Manager
About the Role
Red E Charging is looking for a detail-driven Associate Project Manager to own grant compliance and utility work-order management across our EV charging deployment portfolio. This role is the connective tissue between DOTs, grant agencies, utilities, and our internal PM and construction teams - ensuring nothing falls through the cracks between award and construction readiness. It's built as a growth track: strong performers will take on increasing project-management responsibility, with a clear path toward leading EVSE deployment projects independently.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Compliance & Deliverables
• Serve as the primary point of contact for DOTs, grant agencies, and special program administrators
• Own grant compliance, documentation, and project deliverables across larger deployments
• Manage post-award grant administration and shepherd projects through the pre-contract phase
• Ensure funding requirements are met on schedule, and flag risks to leadership early
• Develop and document best practices and streamlined processes for other PMs, general contractors, utilities, and internal teams.
Utility Coordination
• Manage the utility work-order process end-to-end: intake, account setup, tracking, and processing
• Partner with the utility team to drive follow-up, resolve issues, and maintain timelines
• Keep utility service requests on track and moving through to construction readiness
• Maintain clear records and status tracking across active work orders
Qualifications
• 1–3 years in project coordination, compliance, grants administration, utilities, construction, or a related field
• Background in electric or gas utility work strongly preferred (work order processes, service requests, account setup, or similar)
• Construction industry experience a plus (general contracting, site coordination, permitting, or field operations)
• Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple concurrent deadlines/stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication - this role is client- and agency-facing
• Experience with government/grant-funded projects a plus, not required
- • Interest in EV infrastructure and long-term growth into project management
