POSITION: Food Sovereignty Youth Worker –1-2 positions
LOCATION: Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm, Red Cliff
WAGE: $15/hour, 24 - 32 hours/week
SUPERVISOR(S): Farm Manager
THIS IS A SUMMER INTERNSHIP BEING OFFERED BY MINO BIMAADIZIIWIN TRIBAL FARM OF THE RED CLIFF TREATY NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION. THE POSITION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AROUND EARLY JUNE AND LAST THROUGH LATE AUGUST. TYPICAL WORK WEEK CAN RANGE FROM 3-4 DAYS AND 24-32 HRS/WEEK.
JOB SUMMARY: Assist with Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm operations. The goal of this position is to provide experience working with food sovereignty initiatives, harvesting and processing of traditional medicines, and agricultural production.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in daily farm functions including fruit and vegetable production, orchard care, and medicine beds.
- Assist with Food for Thought youth summer camp.
- Assist with other food sovereignty initiatives and programming at Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
KNOWLEDGE: No previous knowledge or experience required. This internship is meant to inform and educate participants on agriculture and food sovereignty efforts through direct, hands-on learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 14 to 18 years old.
Native American applicants only. Preference will be given to Red Cliff youth, but other enrolled tribal members will be considered in the case of equally qualified candidates.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Treaty Natural Resources Division staff, tribal community.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds. There will be some bending, lifting and reaching. Ability to traverse uneven terrain.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position will occur indoors and outdoors at Mino Bimaadiziiwin Farm, with some activities at other Tribal locations. Applicant must be willing to spend time working outdoors.
