JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Food Sovereignty/Agriculture Apprentice – 1-2 positions
LOCATION: Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm, Red Cliff
WAGE: $20/hour, 24 - 40 hours/week depending on season
THIS IS A FLEXIBLE SEASONAL POSITION WITH FULL TIME HOURS (up to 40 hrs./week) AVAILABLE DURING THE GROWING SEASON (May through September) AND PART-TIME HOURS (up to 24 hrs./week) AVAILABLE POST-SEASON (October – November).

JOB SUMMARY: The Food Sovereignty Apprentice will have an opportunity to contribute to all aspects of Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm operations, including production, community outreach, and food sovereignty initiatives. This may include daily operations such as planting, harvesting, and packing produce, along with seasonal workshops, events, and traditional food processing. This position may also engage directly with the Red Cliff community and other Tribal programs through garden assistance, produce distribution, and other collaborations. Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm is a community focused operation that strives to create a sustainable program that will serve as an integral component of Red Cliff’s food system. The Farm seeks to improve tribal access to locally produced, nutritional foods, to support and advance food sovereignty efforts of the Tribe, and to operate in a sustainable way that plans for the next seven generations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to daily farm functions including fruit and vegetable production, orchard care, and medicine beds.
- Contribute to and support seasonal workshops, events, cultural camps, and feasts.
- Assist with outreach and distribution of Farm produce through the on-site Market Stand and the Mobile Market Stand.
- Support current and ongoing Mino Bimaadiziiwin program activities such as local food procurement and distribution, invasive species control, and community gardens.
- Some limited weekend hours (i.e. outreach and event needs along with occasional weekend care of animals and watering plants) is required.
- The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
KNOWLEDGE: No knowledge or experience required. This position is intended to provide an introduction to small-scale agriculture and provide an opportunity to engage with food sovereignty work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, and must be detail-oriented, efficient, dependable, and safe in the work environment. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and make informed decisions independently.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds. Job may include lifting of harvest crates, movement of materials using carts or wheelbarrows, and use of long-handled tools, hand tools, and harvest tools.
Native American applicants only. Preference will be given to Red Cliff members, but other enrolled tribal members will be considered in the case of equally qualified candidates.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position will occur partially outdoors, on the farm property or in other locations throughout the Red Cliff community. Applicants must be able to work outside for long periods of time in various weather conditions.
