Red Barn Coffee Roasters is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Coffee Roaster to join our team and help create exceptional coffee for our customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in coffee, excellent sensory skills, and a commitment to quality. As a Coffee Roaster, you will be responsible for operating roasting equipment, managing roast profiles, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring consistency in every batch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Roast green coffee according to company standards and specified profiles on Loring and Probat roasting equipment.
- Monitor and adjust roast parameters to ensure consistency and quality
- Maintain detailed logs of roasts, profiles, and equipment performance
- Evaluate roasted coffee through cupping and sensory analysis
- Assist in the development of new roast profiles and seasonal offerings
- Manage green coffee inventory and report usage levels
- Clean and maintain roasting equipment and production space regularly
- Collaborate with the packaging team
- Follow all safety protocols and food handling regulations
- Participate in ongoing training and coffee education opportunities
Requirements:
- Previous experience in coffee roasting preferred but not required (will train the right candidate)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a physically active environment
- Basic mechanical knowledge and comfort with operating machinery
- Passion for coffee and a desire to grow within the specialty coffee industry
- Flexible schedule and willingness to adapt to production needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with roasting software (e.g., Cropster, Artisan)
- Knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and green coffee storage
- Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, SQF, etc.)
