Custody Officer I

What You’ll Do

• Ensure security of assigned posts by staying alert and proactive in preventing emergencies and elopements.
• Monitor activities of individuals served, responding to and de-escalating disruptive or aggressive behavior.
• Operate and monitor facility security systems, including communications, surveillance, alarms, and perimeter systems.
• Conduct searches of individuals, living areas, and communal spaces to prevent contraband.
• Control and monitor all facility entry and exit points, verifying identification and ensuring compliance with security procedures.
• Respond to emergency calls, applying safe aggression-control techniques to protect individuals and staff.
• Inspect the facility environment for safety risks or hazards.
• Monitor vehicular traffic and maintain surveillance of parking areas.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Experience

• Previous experience in corrections, detention, custody, security, law enforcement, behavioral health, or a related setting (preferred).

Licenses/Certifications

(Florida Only)

• Must be at least 18 years of age (required).
• FDLE Correctional Officer certification required or must be eligible to obtain certification in accordance with applicable FDLE requirements (required).
• Valid state driver’s license (required).
