What are the responsibilities and job description for the Application Engineer position at RecruitPod Global?
Company Background
Location: Marion (OH), USA
Our client is a global leader in the design and fabrication of advanced industrial air handling units using Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) technology.
Our integrated approach ensures equipment delivery aligned with the project’s progress. It enables us to shorten overall project timelines, enhance product quality, reduce on-site manpower requirements, and minimize safety incidents — delivering true value beyond the product itself.
Our multidisciplinary expertise spans structural, mechanical, hydronic, electrical, instrumentation & control (I&C), safety, and commissioning.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Application Engineer with a strong background in HVAC systems, specifically in Air Handling Units (AHUs). The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience in HVAC design, construction or MEP subcontractor projects/works.
We are looking for an engineer who will add value to our engineering process and strengthen our value proposition to customers in the US. Our mission is to deliver more than a product — we provide value-driven solutions that optimize efficiency, performance and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
· Gain a detailed understanding of our products, technologies and capabilities to effectively translate them into customer solutions.
· Engage with customers to understand their requirements and translate them into customized concepts, aligning technical feasibility with customer value.
· Develop concept solutions, present them for customer approval, and once approved, forward them to the pricing team for costing and proposal preparation.
· At the purchase order (PO) stage, ensure seamless handover to the engineering team, including all approved concepts and project details.
· Manage the submittal process, reviewing technical documentation, drawings, and data sheets to ensure compliance with specifications and customer expectations.
· Provide technical support for the design, selection, and application of both standard and custom-made AHUs, including OSM solutions.
· Review and interpret HVAC design, P&ID schemes, drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate, project-specific air handling solutions.
· Coordinate with design consultants, contractors and internal teams to ensure compliance with project standards and client expectations.
· Conduct site visits when required, to provide technical guidance and resolve installation or operational issues.
· Stay updated with HVAC technologies, codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISO, etc.) to ensure best practices are applied.
Complex Solutions Scope (Familiarity Required)
· Mechanical design and thermodynamic calculations for AHUs and HVAC systems.
· Structural and seismic design considerations for complete AHU systems.
· Equipment selection for performance and efficiency.
· Electrical panel design and fabrication requirements.
· P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) understanding and development.
· Instrumentation & Control (I&C) panels design and fabrication requirements.
· Factory acceptance testing and commissioning processes.
This knowledge is critical for concept development, customer communication and project coordination, while the detailed technical execution will be handled by dedicated engineering specialists.
Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
· Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in HVAC design, construction or MEP subcontractor projects/works.
· Strong knowledge of HVAC system design principles with proven expertise in Air Handling Units.
· Experience in customer-facing roles involving concept development, technical presentations, or submittal processes.
· Broad understanding of multidisciplinary engineering fields (mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, commissioning) and ability to coordinate with specialized teams.
· Ability to work with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks and Navisworks, with familiarity in BIM modeling workflows and coordination.
· Excellent problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills
· Hands-on experience in AHU manufacturing or customized fabrication processes.
· Understanding of modular/off-site construction practices in MEP/HVAC projects.
· Multifunctional understanding of disciplines and systems including structural, hydronic, electrical, control, modularization, and related fields.
· Knowledge of energy efficiency standards and sustainable HVAC solutions.
· Previous exposure to project site execution, testing, and troubleshooting.
What We Offer
· Opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that delivers both standard solutions and innovative custom-made/OSM Air Handling Units and systems.
· Exposure to complex multidisciplinary solutions, with the support of experienced engineering teams.
· A role where your contribution directly adds value to engineering and strengthens our customer value proposition.
· Professional development and training in the latest HVAC, BIM, and modular construction technologies.
· Competitive compensation package with career growth opportunities.
