The career opportunity for you:
Recore Electrical Contractors is currently seeking a press brake operator to set up and operate CNC or manual press brake machines to bend, form, and fabricate sheet metal components used in UL 891 switchgear and electrical enclosure assemblies. This role requires the ability to read fabrication drawings, maintain tight tolerances, and ensure parts meet quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate press brake machines to bend sheet metal parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, fabrication prints, and bend schedules for switchgear components.
- Select appropriate dies, punches, and tooling for bending operations.
- Measure parts using calipers, tape measures, protractors, and angle gauges to verify tolerances.
- Adjust machine settings such as bend angles, back gauges, and tonnage to ensure accurate bends.
- Produce parts that meet UL 891 fabrication and quality standards.
- Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, burrs, and surface defects.
- Work with mild steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel commonly used in switchgear cabinets.
- Maintain safe operation of press brake equipment following OSHA and shop safety guidelines.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Collaborate with welders, assemblers, and quality control personnel to ensure proper fit-up of fabricated parts.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience operating CNC or manual press brake machines.
- Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of sheet metal bending techniques and bend allowances.
- Familiarity with UL 891 switchgear enclosure components (preferred).
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication tolerances.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools.
- Good math skills including fractions, decimals, and basic geometry.
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in electrical enclosure or switchgear manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Amada, Cincinnati, or Trumpf press brake machines.
- Familiarity with UL 891, UL 1558, or electrical cabinet fabrication.
- Experience with CNC programming for press brakes.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing / fabrication shop environment
- Exposure to metal dust, noise, and heavy equipment
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection)
