About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our inpatient substance abuse treatment center. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality medical care within a residential and withdrawal management (detox) setting, working under the supervision of the Medical Director and in collaboration with nursing leadership.
The ideal candidate has experience treating opioid use disorder (OUD), alcohol use disorder (AUD), and co-occurring conditions, and is comfortable managing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and withdrawal protocols.
Schedule: 8a-4:30p PRN/Part-Time
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, including history & physicals, substance use history, and ongoing assessments
- Diagnose and treat substance use disorders and co-occurring medical/mental health conditions within scope of practice
- Oversee and manage withdrawal (detox) protocols and individualized patient monitoring plans
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests as clinically indicated
- Prescribe and manage medications in compliance with DEA regulations and state/federal laws
- Provide education and promote access to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) options
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff and multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, coordinated care
- Participate in medication reconciliation upon admission and assist with regimen adjustments
- Make referrals to outside providers/specialists as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR system in compliance with regulatory standards
- Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and performance improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with ASAM Criteria, Joint Commission/CARF standards, and state regulations
QualificationsEducation & Licensure
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program
- Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current DEA registration
Experience
- Experience treating substance use disorders (SUD) required
- Experience in detox, residential, or medically monitored settings strongly preferred
- Experience prescribing and managing MAT medications (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of ASAM Criteria and SUD treatment best practices
- Ability to manage withdrawal protocols and clinical stabilization
- Proficiency in lab interpretation and medication management
- Familiarity with state/federal regulations and accreditation standards
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is performed in a behavioral healthcare setting with exposure to patients experiencing substance use and mental health conditions
- May involve exposure to behavioral crises, communicable illnesses, and emotionally distressed individuals
- Requires ability to respond to urgent clinical situations and emergencies
- Regular use of EMR systems and standard medical equipment (e.g., BP monitors, pulse oximeters)
- Must follow infection control protocols and PPE requirements
Pay: $70.00 - $100.00 per hour
