The Opportunity
- Realityworks is seeking a hands-on Engineering Team Lead to develop innovative Career & Technical Education (CTE) learning products. This “player-coach” role leads a small, cross-functional team while actively contributing to design, prototyping, and problem solving from concept through production. You’ll drive execution, remove roadblocks, and support engineers day-to-day in a fast-paced environment—ensuring high-quality results while making a meaningful impact in education.
Key Responsibilities
Leads a small, cross-functional engineering team, providing clear direction, prioritization, and accountability across multiple concurrent development initiatives
Serves as a working leader, actively contributing to engineering work including design, prototyping, troubleshooting, and problem solving
Provides day-to-day coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to engineering team members to support development and accountability
Owns execution of engineering workstreams, ensuring steady progress from concept through production
Makes technical decisions and trade-offs to balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and timeline
Drives resolution of technical issues through active engagement in design reviews, debugging, and risk management
Partners with product management to translate requirements into actionable engineering plans and priorities, with project planning, schedule and cost estimates
Collaborates with manufacturing and quality teams to support builds, product launch, and continuous improvement efforts
Identifies risks, removes blockers, and maintains momentum across engineering initiatives
Supports product validation and testing activities to ensure performance and reliability requirements are met
Ensures engineering documentation and design outputs meet internal standards
Contributes to continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and team effectiveness
Provides input into performance evaluations, development planning, and staffing decisions for team members
Ensures alignment of engineering efforts with broader R&D and organizational priorities
Promotes a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and directly-related experience
- 5 years of engineering experience in product development
- Demonstrated strength in mechanical design
- Experience working with electromechanical systems
- Prior experience leading engineering projects or technical teams
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a technical lead or working team lead role
- Experience developing educational technology products or training equipment
- Experience working in small, fast-paced engineering teams
- Experience in manufacturing environments and supporting product launch activities
- Experience supervising or mentoring engineers
- Background in systems engineering or product reliability engineering
Work Location
- Realityworks is headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This is a fully onsite position.
