The client is initiating a critical transformation in how critical components are marked and identified across the business. The project focuses on evolving existing marking methods toward laser marking and 2D data matrix barcode implementation, enabling reliable traceability, improved quality control, and alignment with brand and regulatory strategy. The initiative has progressed through limited technical feasibility, conducted by a resource currently on rotation who will be moving to a next rotation. The next phase requires ownership through full implementation, including change control, extensive testing, and navigation of quality and regulatory processes.
- Project Objectives
- Implement a standardized approach for laser marking and 2D data matrix identification on a critical component
- Transition from feasibility into full-scale implementation
- Drive the change request (CR) through J&J quality systems
- Align marking strategy with brand, quality, and regulatory expectations
- Enable manufacturing-floor readability via camera-based systems (non‑complex)
- Ensure compliance within a medical device quality system
- Scope of Work
- Leading implementation following feasibility completion
- Navigating J&J quality systems and documentation
- Coordinating testing strategies (potentially large in volume)
- Negotiating requirements with Quality and cross‑functional stakeholders
- Supporting manufacturing and support areas (not direct manufacturing ownership)
- Building or enabling a new workstation to support the team
- Leading SME evaluations and requirement scoping discussions
- Managing interfaces between injection molding, laser marking, and barcode grading
- Role Profile (Project Owner / Project Manager)
- 2-10 years of experience (candidates with more experience acceptable)
- Project Manager or Project Engineer profile
- Mechanical or manufacturing-adjacent background preferred
- Experience in medical devices highly desirable
- Manufacturing floor experience essential
- Navigate quality systems and create formal documentation
- Drive change control initiatives end‑to‑end
- Strong organizational and meeting‑driving skills
- Comfortable negotiating requirements with Quality
- Able to translate technical inputs into structured documentation
- Confident, proactive, and not hesitant to set direction
