The Development Engineer III is responsible for leading design and development activities across component, subassembly, and full medical device projects. This role drives work from early concept through commercialization, including requirements definition, prototyping, modeling, and design verification.
This position is based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, with occasional travel between local sites as needed.
- Develop and execute technical plans and project deliverables in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Lead product design and development activities throughout the full product lifecycle
- Generate and evaluate design concepts using engineering analysis and problem-solving techniques
- Create and maintain documentation for design inputs/outputs, verification, and testing in alignment with quality systems
- Collaborate closely with customers and internal stakeholders to communicate technical progress and requirements
- Conduct engineering analysis, feasibility assessments, and testing
- Drive cross-functional alignment to advance projects efficiently
- Mentor and support junior engineers
- Identify and resolve technical and process challenges
- Support critical technical decisions, including design direction, vendor selection, and quality-related considerations
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience across multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., product development, testing, modeling, manufacturing processes)
- Medical device design experience preferred, particularly with minimally invasive technologies (e.g., catheters, guidewires, delivery systems)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using statistical tools (e.g., DOE, tolerance analysis, Minitab)
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
- Experience mentoring or coaching other engineers is a plus
- Commitment to continuous improvement and adaptability in a dynamic environment
- Willingness to travel locally between sites as needed
