Summary
The Credentialing Summer Intern supports the credentialing and provider enrollment teams in ensuring that all physicians and advanced practice providers meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards for practicing within the health system. This role offers hands-on experience with healthcare operations, compliance, and administrative processes that directly impact patient safety and provider onboarding.
The intern will gain exposure to the full credentialing lifecycle, including primary source verification, data management, file auditing, provider onboarding workflows, and regulatory compliance. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in healthcare administration, compliance, public health, human resources, or organizational operations.

Job Functions
- Assist in collecting, organizing, and maintaining provider documents such as licenses, certifications, insurance, and education records.
- Support primary source verification activities under supervision (e.g., education, work history, board certification).
- Help prepare and update credentialing and re-appointment files in accordance with accreditation standards (NCQA, CMS, Joint Commission).
- Participate in data entry and quality checks within credentialing database (e.g., CAQH, FCVS, NPDB, QGenda or equivalent).
- Assist with payer enrollment activities, including application preparation, tracking, and follow-up communications.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure file completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as HR, Provider Services, Medical Staff Office, and Recruitment teams to support provider onboarding.
- Help maintain organized digital and physical credentialing records.
- Attend team meetings, observe credentialing committee review processes, and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Support process improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies and proposing workflow enhancements.
