What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Ed Professional Development Facilitator position at Reading School District?
- Collaborates with district and building instructional leaders in implementing challenging and rigorous curriculum, with all students, based on the Pennsylvania Academic Standards.
- Become an expert in the core reading, math, and intervention programs to ensure implementation by classroom teachers.
- Provides information, resources and support relevant to teaching and compliance; including, but not limited to, effective and/or innovative teaching strategies, assessment techniques, interpretation of and response to assessment data, IEPS, FBAs and best practices, culturally responsive teaching and learning, content area instruction, literacy, technology and interventions for students at risk of academic failure.
- Engages in classroom visitations to support teachers as they plan and deliver intervention programs, under the supervision of central office and building administration.
- Delivers professional development during the school year and throughout the summer in a variety of formats including, but not limited to:
- Individual discussions
- Coaching Sessions
- Demonstration lessons with pre and post discussion/analysis
- Study groups
- Informal meetings
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Professional development and/or in-service training programs
- Workshops
- Induction
- Provides guidance and support to IEP teams in determining appropriate academic and social-emotional intervention selections for students.
- Organizes and catalogs intervention materials at central special education office and distributes program materials to teachers.
- Collaborates with the Office of Teaching and Learning to utilize achievement data to determine effectiveness of intervention programs.
- Engages in professional learning to ensure deep knowledge of best practices in terms of intervention instructional practices and programs available.
- Collaborates with Office of Teaching and Learning for scheduling professional development
- Collects, compiles and analyzes professional development data to determine the effectiveness of professional development efforts.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Makes provisions to be available to teachers, students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so.
- Adheres to the policies and regulations of the Reading School District and the Pennsylvania State Department of Education.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
- 5 years teaching experience in special education

- Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate in Special Education (required)
- Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate (preferred):
- Supervisor of Special Education; or Principal K-12
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional literature, documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, formal correspondence, and other documents that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, supervisors, administrators, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to effectively participate in continuing professional development based on assessment of needs.
- Ability to respectfully and effectively respond to common inquiries, concerns, or complaints from any member of the educational community.
