Position Goal: To be a team member that supports students in learning the skills taught by the classroom teacher.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Hold an Associate's Degree or higher or have earned at least 48 college-level credits. Or hold a High School diploma and be able to take and pass a local assessment that measures their knowledge and ability to assist in the instruction of Reading, Mathematics and Writing.
Language Skills
Experience working with elementary children. Spanish-speaking preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk/table for limited periods of time. Stand for limited/extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach and grasp. The employee must occasionally do light lifting up to 10 pounds.

- Reviews instructional plans with the classroom teacher in order to implement daily instruction.
- Assists in planning and arranging a physical classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Assists in making teaching materials as needed by the teacher.
- Assists children during learning and planned activity time as new materials are introduced.
- Assists children with life skills, including but not limited to: toileting needs, cleaning up, taking turns, following simple directions, following safety rules, understanding safe versus unsafe behavior
- Supports students who exhibit behaviors by providing consistent structure, de-escalation strategies, modeling appropriate behaviors, collecting data, and consistent structure.
- Under the supervision of classroom teacher, works with small groups of students or individuals to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
- Assists in supervising field trips, walking tours and bus trips.
- Participates in professional development.
- Participates in parental conferences.
- Conveys a positive, professional attitude toward learning.
- Ability to work effectively with students
- Communicates effectively with parents.
- Takes direction from classroom teachers.
