Job Summary

The Cytotechnologist:

  • Performs microscopic examinations.
  • Provides final interpretations of normal gynecological specimens.
  • Provides initial interpretations of non-gynecological, FNA and abnormal gynecological specimens using standardized procedures.
  • Assists in the collection and preparation of FNA and biopsy specimens for immediate evaluation; understanding method principles; performing quality control and quality assurance activities and evaluating results based on patient demographics and history.
  • Works independently, organizes work to meet established deadlines and validates all data obtained.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • 4 year/Bachelor's Degree
  • Graduate of a Cytotechnology Program

Certification and Licensure

  • CT (Cytologist) ASCP certified or eligible (must be obtained within one year of hire)

The lab offers cross training opportunities and the opportunity to be part of cross-function process improvement teams. In Fiscal Year 2023, the lab performed 8.5 million tests (including Chemistry, Cytology, Flow Cytometry, Hematology, Coagulation, Histology, Microbiology, Point of Care Testing, Transfusion Services and Urinalysis), 122,751 Anatomical Pathology tests, and 404,139 combined inpatient & outpatient phlebotomy draws. The department consists of over 200 medical laboratory professionals.
