Position Overview:
We are seeking a Survey Party Chief to lead field survey operations from the Pittsburgh, PA office. In this role, you will manage a team of survey technicians, oversee all aspects of surveying projects, and ensure the accurate collection of land measurements and data. Your work will directly support engineering, design, and construction activities, making this a vital role for delivering successful projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead survey crews in conducting fieldwork for boundary, topographic, construction staking, ALTA/NSPS, and control surveys.
- Oversee the setup and operation of survey equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Ensure accurate recording and certification of field data, notes, and sketches to meet survey standards.
- Prepare and review survey maps, reports, and drawings for project managers and clients.
- Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.
- Train and mentor junior survey technicians to build skills and strengthen team performance.
- Maintain survey equipment through regular inspections and calibrations.
- Document survey activities with organized field notes, sketches, and digital data files.
- Stay current with the latest surveying techniques, equipment, and best practices.
- Enforce safety protocols in all field operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, technical school, or SIT preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief or in a similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of survey regulations, principles, and methods.
- Proficiency in using modern survey equipment (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center a plus.
- Familiarity with construction and engineering projects preferred.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol screenings (including random testing).
- Willingness to travel with overnight stays as required by projects.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
