Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Design Engineer to support civil engineering design, site development, and plan production for a variety of land development and infrastructure projects.

This is a hands-on, design-focused role involving the preparation of civil engineering drawings, grading plans, drainage systems, utility layouts, stormwater calculations, and permit-ready construction documents. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Professional Engineers, land surveyors, environmental professionals, and field teams to translate survey data and engineering concepts into accurate, coordinated design plans.

This opportunity is ideal for an early- to mid-career civil engineering professional looking to strengthen technical design skills, gain practical project experience, and develop toward increased engineering and project management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Civil Engineering Design & Drafting
  • Prepare, develop, and revise civil engineering plans and construction documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

  • Produce site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, utility layouts, profiles, engineering details, and technical drawings.

  • Perform stormwater management, drainage, and hydrologic calculations using HydroCAD or comparable software.

  • Assist with wastewater and septic system design and supporting documentation.

  • Support roadway, driveway, site access, and utility design.

  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical exhibits, and supporting reports.

  • Translate engineering concepts and project direction into accurate, coordinated plan sets.

  • Maintain drawing standards, organized project files, and high-quality design deliverables.

Survey Data & Existing Conditions
  • Incorporate survey field data into existing conditions plans and engineered site designs.

  • Prepare survey-based base plans for engineering and environmental projects.

  • Draft topographic features, property boundaries, easements, utilities, and other surveyed site information under appropriate professional supervision.

  • Coordinate with land surveyors and field crews to resolve data discrepancies and improve plan accuracy.

  • Assist with the preparation and revision of as-built and record drawings.

Site Development & Stormwater Design
  • Assist with site layout, grading, earthwork, and land development design.

  • Prepare stormwater management calculations, drainage designs, and supporting technical exhibits.

  • Assist with erosion and sediment control plans and construction-phase requirements.

  • Support feasibility studies, conceptual site planning, and engineering design alternatives.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and Project Managers on technical analysis and design solutions.

Permitting & Regulatory Support
  • Prepare plans, exhibits, and technical documents required for municipal, state, and environmental permitting.

  • Assist with responses to municipal review comments, regulatory requirements, and peer-review feedback.

  • Update plans based on client feedback, agency comments, and internal reviews.

  • Coordinate with environmental and permitting professionals to ensure designs address applicable site constraints and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and municipal meetings as needed.

Professional Development
  • Develop independent civil engineering design capabilities through hands-on project experience and mentorship.

  • Pursue Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification, if not already obtained, and work toward Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.

  • Build skills in technical coordination, project execution, and client communication.

  • Progress toward greater technical responsibility and potential Project Management opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD; proficiency in Civil 3D strongly preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret surveys, engineering plans, and technical documentation.

  • Working knowledge of site grading, drainage, stormwater management, and land development design.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality plan production.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing civil/site plans using survey data.

  • Experience with HydroCAD or comparable stormwater modeling software.
