Job Overview

RAW Combustion is hiring a dependable, mechanically skilled Shop Mechanic to support the assembly, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of natural gas compression equipment at our Alice, Texas facility.

This is a hands-on shop position working with natural gas engines, compressors, pumps, valves, piping, vessels, control systems, and skid-mounted equipment. The ideal candidate has experience with industrial equipment, diesel or natural gas engines, oilfield equipment, heavy machinery, or mechanical assembly.

Direct natural gas compression experience is preferred but not required. Training may be provided to candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and relevant industrial experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain natural gas compression equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, belt adjustments, fluid checks, and component inspections.
• Assist with the assembly and refurbishment of compressor packages, VRUs, engines, piping, vessels, and skid-mounted equipment.
• Remove, install, and align engines, compressors, pumps, valves, coolers, and related components.
• Diagnose mechanical problems using OEM manuals, drawings, schematics, and service information.
• Inspect hoses, fittings, gaskets, seals, bearings, belts, piping, and rotating equipment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, torque equipment, measuring instruments, and diagnostic tools safely.
• Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting involving wiring, sensors, switches, shutdown devices, and control panels.
• Perform minor fabrication, grinding, cutting, fitting, and welding when qualified.
• Operate forklifts, overhead lifting equipment, and other shop equipment after proper training and authorization.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, inspections, and completed work.
• Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
• Follow RAW Combustion safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Assist with equipment loading, unloading, testing, and final preparation for shipment.
• Provide occasional field support when business needs require it.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an industrial mechanic, compressor mechanic, diesel mechanic, heavy-equipment mechanic, millwright, or similar mechanical position.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting ability.
• Experience working with engines, compressors, pumps, valves, piping, or rotating equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals, equipment drawings, and mechanical schematics.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a shop team.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to complete assigned work efficiently.
• Ability to lift and handle parts weighing up to 50 pounds and work from standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing positions.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass applicable pre-employment screening requirements.

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

• Caterpillar or Waukesha natural gas engines
• Ariel, Frick, or other industrial compressors
• Natural gas compression packages
• Vapor recovery units
• Oilfield or pipeline equipment
• Pumps, valves, vessels, and process piping
• Welding, fabrication, or pipe fitting
• Electrical controls and instrumentation
• Forklift, crane, or rigging operations

Work Environment

This position is based primarily inside an industrial shop. Employees may be exposed to noise, heat, moving equipment, oils, grease, and other normal industrial-shop conditions. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as directed.
