Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior CAD Designer / CAD Design Engineer (Level IV) with 8 years of professional drafting and design experience to join our engineering team in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience creating detailed engineering drawings, 2D and 3D models, and technical documentation using CAD software. This role requires the ability to interpret customer requirements, engineering specifications, and blueprints while collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and contract documents using CAD software.
- Develop accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for engineering and manufacturing applications.
- Interpret customer requirements, engineering specifications, supplier documentation, and technical data sheets.
- Read and analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and design documentation.
- Prepare and maintain design documentation supporting engineering drawings and project deliverables.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable engineering standards, drafting practices, and company procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams throughout the design lifecycle.
- Review designs for accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Incorporate engineering changes and revisions into existing drawings and models.
- Support product development, design improvements, and documentation control activities.
- Maintain drawing revisions, documentation, and CAD libraries.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 8 years of professional CAD drafting and design experience.
- Strong proficiency in one or more CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Siemens NX, or Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience creating detailed 2D engineering drawings and 3D models.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
- Strong understanding of engineering concepts, drafting standards, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience preparing engineering documentation and design support packages.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple design projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting manufacturing, aerospace, defense, medical device, or industrial engineering projects.
- Knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Familiarity with ASME drafting standards and GD&T.
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.
