What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at Rauch & Associates?
Manufacturing Engineer – CNC
Detroit, MI | Automotive Manufacturing | Full-Time
A hands-on role where you actually solve problems and not just document them
We’re partnering with a Michigan-based manufacturing group to find a Manufacturing Engineer who thrives on the production floor: someone who enjoys troubleshooting, improving machining processes, and supporting new automated lines in a high-volume environment.
This is not a sit-back role. You’ll be directly involved in CNC programming, tooling, process optimization, and launch support - owning both the process and the problems.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Work on fully automated CNC machining lines in a true production setting
- Play a key role in new product launches and process optimization
- Be part of a hands-on engineering team where your input actually drives change
- High visibility role with real impact on performance, efficiency, and uptime
- Exposure to automation, robotics, tooling, and advanced machining systems
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and optimize CNC programs (turning milling) for performance and quality
- Support new product launches (NPI) for automated machining lines
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and automation issues directly on the floor
- Work with robotics, vision systems, and in-process gauging
- Select and optimize cutting tools, speeds, and feeds (turning-focused)
- Partner with production, quality, and controls teams
- Drive continuous improvement in a high-volume environment
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in CNC machining, with expertise in CNC turning (lathes)
- Solid exposure to CNC milling (multi-axis preferred)
- Background in a high-volume automotive or similar fast-paced environment
- Hands-on experience with automated machining lines and launches
- Strong CNC programming skills (G-code/CAM)
- Deep understanding of cutting tools and machining optimization
- Experience troubleshooting issues on the production floor
- Exposure to automation, robotics, PLCs, vision systems, or gauging
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
Nice to Have
- Experience with gear cutting, hobbing, or broaching
- Lean / Six Sigma background
