What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ag Ranch Irrigator position at RATTO BROS?
The Ranch Irrigator will be responsible for managing the application of water, coordinating with other members of the grow department for the use of fertilizers, tractor operations, cultivating, and spraying. Also, working with the irrigation supervisor as well as with other irrigators during climate changes to help prevent plant mortality by adjusting irrigation schedule, as well as timing the application and selecting the method of application to get the most desirable amount of moisture available to the plant. Coordinating with the harvest department to regulate the amount of water applied to crops scheduled for harvest or in harvest.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Responsible for crop irrigation, plant growth and ranch production (daily, weekly and monthly).
- Maintenance and installation of drip tape, sprinklers, pipes, and main lines.
- Maintenance and cleanliness of pumps and wells.
- Responsible for proper use and application of chlorine and fertilization systems.
- Coordinating with the grow department to accommodate the spray weeding schedule.
- Coordinate with the harvest department to accommodate harvest schedules.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the ranch.
- Responsible for completing the 7-Days Prior to Harvest Risk Assessment form.
- Responsible for animal intrusion and gopher patrol.
- Responsible for documenting all crop irrigations and maintenance of irrigation equipment.
- Assist in tractor operations such as, cultivating and putting down drip tape
- Assist other irrigators in ranch projects as they become necessary
- Responsible for the operations of Irrigation pumps, wells, booster, ect.
- Responsible for understanding pressure and volume.
- Responsible for thoroughly comprehending and following all of the company’s safety and food safety policies and procedures (Good Agricultural Practices, Good Manufacture Practices, etc.)
Skills/Abilities
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policies, procedure manuals and write routine reports and correspondence.
- Prior work experience relevant to this position is desired
- Ability to properly drive a tractor, forklift and Gator.
- Must have a valid CA driver’s license
