Raritan Valley Community College currently has an anticipated opening for a Grounds Worker in the Facilities & Grounds department. Under the supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Manager, the Grounds Worker performs a variety of maintenance duties related to maintaining and improving facility grounds and athletic fields.
Essential Duties:
Plant, trim, spray, mow, weed, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel, plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or sand, and other related functions of a groundskeeper with directions from the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
Maintain flower beds, planting boxes, and landscaping in various areas of the college campus. Performs all gardening including the recommendation of plantings and purchasing of related equipment.
Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, edgers, trimmers, shears, etc.
Operate trucks, tractors and attachments to pick up supplies, deliver materials, load furniture and maintain grounds as needed.
Prepare athletic fields for sporting and special events.
Adhere to guidelines for using chemicals, equipment and paint.
Reports any damage, leaks, lighting or equipment malfunctions in the buildings or grounds to the appropriate supervisor in writing.
Performs construction and project related work as assigned, and operate associated machinery and tools.
Performs work assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Manager which are associated with assisting staff with set ups of special events and college activities.
Clear snow and ice from parking lots and roadways. Shovels or sweeps areas. Operates snow plows, blowers, salt spreaders and other snow removal equipment.
Repairs machines or replaces broken parts and inspects completed repair.
Maintain a safe and orderly work environment, which conforms to all standards and regulations. Adheres to sanitation, safety policies and accident reporting procedures. Maintains tools and supplies in an orderly manner.
Performs boiler checks and records data in log books.
Assist custodial and maintenance personnel as needed.
Attends and completes training and safety meetings. Performs work in accordance with safety procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
At least two years of previous maintenance experience.
New Jersey Black Seal License or ability to obtain one within 12 months is mandatory.
Valid driver's license.
Flexibility of schedule is imperative. Depending upon the nature of the work assignment, individual should be available to work any shift or day of the week and be available to work overtime.
Must be able to lift and carry at least 75 pounds.
Position requires individuals to work inside and outside and during inclement weather.
