Personal Support Staff – Job Description
Location: Lutz, FL
Schedule:
- Monday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Saturday: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM (3 Saturdays per month)
Position Overview
The Personal Support Staff will provide direct support to a 24-year-old high-functioning adult with Autism who does not exhibit behavioral challenges. The individual requires assistance and verbal prompting with daily living skills, grooming, personal hygiene, and general organization. Staff will also help facilitate safe and meaningful participation in community activities.
All meals are prepared by the parent; staff will be responsible for serving meals, ensuring proper dietary practices, and monitoring safety. The family highly encourages community outings, including local parks, stores, fitness activities, and other social enrichment that aligns with the client’s interests.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide verbal prompting, monitoring, and hands-on support with grooming, hygiene, and daily personal care routines.
- Serve meals prepared by the parent and ensure safe eating habits.
- Support the client in maintaining daily structure, organization, and independence-building routines.
- Engage the client in community-based activities such as walks, parks, shopping, or recreational opportunities.
- Ensure health and safety at all times during home and community activities.
- Assist with light household tasks directly related to the client (cleaning up after meals, tidying personal areas as needed).
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and promote dignity, respect, and independence.
- Document daily activities and communicate updates to the parent as required.
- Transport the client safely using the staff’s personal vehicle when engaging in community outings.
Qualifications – Applicants Must Meet the Following Criteria
✔ Minimum 1 year of experience in healthcare, personal supports, or working with individuals with disabilities
✔ Ability to pass a Level II background screening and local law check
✔ High School Diploma or GED
✔ CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications (or willing to complete within first 60 days)
✔ Valid Driver’s License
✔ Reliable transportation – must have own vehicle and current car insurance
✔ Access to a smartphone or smart device for documentation and communication
✔ Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and professional support
✔ Comfortable providing personal care support to an adult
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Experience in community-based personal support or direct care
- Strong communication skills and patience
Additional Information
- All required certifications not currently held may be completed within the first 60 days of employment.
- Staff will be trained directly by the parent and support agency regarding routines, expectations, and safety procedures.
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38 – 47 per week
