Job Title: Concrete Finisher / Laborer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Concrete Finisher to join our construction team. The Concrete Finisher will be responsible for placing, leveling, smoothing, and finishing freshly poured concrete to ensure high-quality, durable surfaces that meet project specifications and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of concrete principles, proficiency with a variety of tools, and a commitment to precision and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation & Forming:
- Set, align, and secure forms for pouring concrete to the correct depth and pitch.
- Prepare and clean subgrade surfaces before concrete placement.
- Concrete Placement & Leveling:
- Direct the pouring of concrete from trucks or pumps.
- Spread, level, and smooth freshly poured concrete using rakes, shovels, hand floats, power floats, and power screeds.
- Operate power vibrators to compact concrete and eliminate air pockets.
- Finishing & Detailing:
- Apply various finishes to concrete surfaces, including smooth, broom, exposed aggregate, or decorative finishes, using appropriate hand and power tools (e.g., trowels, edgers, jointers, power trowels).
- Cut, mold, and install control joints, expansion joints, and isolation joints.
- Repair and patch voids, defects, and chipped areas in concrete surfaces.
- Grind and chip high spots and rough projections to achieve desired flatness and smoothness.
- Curing & Protection:
- Apply curing compounds, sealants, and other protective treatments to concrete surfaces to ensure proper hydration, strength development, and longevity.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust work methods to prevent damage to curing concrete.
- Safety & Maintenance:
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Clean, maintain, and properly store tools and equipment.
- May operate various construction equipment such as skid loaders, forklifts, or manlifts (certification required if applicable).
- Teamwork:
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, including laborers, carpenters, and supervisors.
- Communicate any issues or concerns to the Foreman or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- No experience necessary, but preffered
- Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in operating hand tools (trowels, screeds, floats, edgers, jointers) and power tools (power trowels, power screeds, concrete saws, vibrators).
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of construction site safety practices and procedures.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs regularly).
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet).
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Work Environment:
- Primarily outdoor construction sites.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
